My Snapshot from SupplySide West 2024: Collagen, Adaptogens, and the Future of Packaging

Published on 10 November 2024 at 00:32

At SupplySide West 2024 Expo , my primary focus was on collagen suppliers, and I had the opportunity to visit several booths from a diverse range of vendors, including those from  Norway, Italy, Turkey, Japan, China, Ireland, and the US. The key takeaway from these interactions was the emphasis on highly soluble, tasteless, and colorless collagen products that can be seamlessly integrated into everything from beverages and snacks to skincare. I was particularly impressed by the variety of collagen sources, including bovine, marine, poultry, and even vegan options, showcasing the versatility and innovation driving the industry forward.

Adaptogens were also a major highlight of the event. I visited booths featuring ingredients like reishi and cordyceps mushrooms, as well as ashwagandha and holy basil—powerful plants that help manage stress and support overall well-being. These ingredients are increasingly being incorporated into energy drinks, supplements, and wellness-focused foods. It was exciting to see how adaptogens are becoming mainstream, reflecting the growing consumer demand for functional, stress-relieving products.

Another exciting trend I observed was the evolution of packaging, particularly in the snack sector. I came across a great collection of innovative, eco-friendly packaging solutions, including flexible pouch-like containers that offer both convenience and sustainability. I also learned about how pH levels affect the lining of cans, which was a fascinating insight. In addition, I encountered vanilla products from Madagascar, which were a stand-out among the range of natural ingredients showcased. The event also highlighted the growing interest in organic ingredients and sustainable packaging materials, reinforcing the industry's shift towards eco-conscious solutions. Overall, SupplySide West was an incredible learning opportunity, allowing me to explore new ingredients like organic Spirulina from China, Soursop from Belize and Brazilian propolis as well.
